Florence, Oregon, is beautiful every season, with mild temperatures and stunning natural scenery. Located on the Oregon Coast at the mouth of the Siuslaw River, just north of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, Florence provides an ideal location for visitors. It combines all the region's attractions in one place, featuring freshwater lakes, miles of coastal sand dunes, and world-class landmarks such as the Heceta Head Lighthouse and the Sea Lion Caves. Florence has become a favorite destination for food lovers, and adventurers alike.

Shopping

You may be surprised that the small town of Florence, Oregon has some cool and unique shopping. I recommend you start in Old Town Florence where you will find a variety of retail shopping; including numerous galleries, boutiques, gifts, jewelry, and rock shops. More shops can be discovered tucked into side streets, so don't be afraid to explore. In addition, if you enjoy thrifting, Florence has some great thrift stores to check out.

Visit Heceta Head Lighthouse

Heceta Head is one of the most beautiful lighthouses in the world and that is not just my opinion. It sits 206 feet above the Pacific Ocean and has one of the strongest lights on the Oregon coast, its automated beacon can be seen 21 miles from land. The Heceta Head Lighthouse and Lightkeeper’s Home, established in 1894, are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The lighthouse is 12.5 miles from Florence and has a free day parking area. The half-mile trail to the lighthouse begins in the parking area and passes by the lightkeeper's house on the way up to the lighthouse and viewpoint. The trail is short and has a mild climb. The views are EPIC, well worth the drive, and the short walk to the top.

Take a Hike

I have two favorite hikes that I take every time I visit Florence, Oregon. Both options are available year-round. Bring a hat, coat, and gloves to enjoy these trails year-round. You'll be rewarded with fresh air and beautiful scenery.

Jessie M. Honeyman State Park Trail $5 day-use parking fee

This versatile coastal park is tucked in the dunes three miles south of the city of Florence and two miles from the ocean. Known simply as "Honeyman," the park includes the second-largest Oregon state park campground and two sparkling freshwater lakes. Take the easy 2-mile trail around the lake and enjoy the wonderful views of forest, dunes, and lake. The park is open year-round.

Wohink Lakeside Trail

This is a scenic 2.0-mile out-and-back trail near Florence, Oregon. I consider this an easy route and takes about 40 minutes to complete. This trail is ideal for birdwatching and hiking. Dogs are welcome on leash.

Visit the Dunes

The Oregon Dunes are the largest expanse of coastal sand dunes in North America, stretching 40 miles from Florence to North Bend. The Oregon Coast dunes have numerous opportunities to explore and experience the incredible wonder of the dunes. You can rent ATVs, dune buggies, or try out sandboarding if you are adventuresome.

Not up for driving your own dune buggy? Book a tour of the dunes with an experienced guide on one of the many giant dune buggies. You will have a blast, sit back and relax, and let someone else navigate the tricky dunes for you.
