Zagreb is the Capital of Croatia. Locals say it's a big town disguised as a small city. It has a deep history dating back to the Romans. We only had two days to explore this historic city, so we packed as much into our visit as possible. We could make it to everything on this list of things to do in our full two-day stay. We hired a private tour guide for one of the days and explored the second day on our own.

Things to Do

  1. Ban Jelačić Square

  2. Mandusevac Fountain

  3. Dolac Farmers Market

  4. Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (or simply Zagreb Cathedral)

  5. Saint Marks Square and Church

  6. Croatian History Museum

  7. Zagreb Funicular

  8. Gric Tunnel

  9. Botanical Gardens

  10. King Tomislav Square

Opened in 1925 as a refuge for passengers from the Orient Express, the über-stylish Esplanade Zagreb Hotel is an architectural wonder. Long-established as a haven for movie stars, celebrities, musicians, and artists the hotel’s fairytale exterior and gracious guest accommodation make it easily the most prestigious hotel in Zagreb. The location is within easy access to public transportation and key attractions. The city’s most iconic hotel combines Art Deco glamour with luxury modern amenities.

Final Thoughts

Hotel Esplanade Zagreb was a great two-night stay at the end of our trip. The location was bustling and very convenient for walking and exploring downtown. The hotel staff were accommodating and helpful. The old-world glamour was fun. We would recommend this hotel for a stay in Zagreb.
